Vincent's letters home


Careful research revealed some lovely quotes from van Gogh's letters to his brother Theo while he was living at 87 Hackford Road. These quotes are now being carved into the black granite seating on Isabel Street, by locally based sculptor and stone engraver Corin Johnson and his team...watched over by Colin the collie dog. Corin is working hard on the second quote - quite a challenge to fit it all on. But thanks to the work done by Ian Chilvers at the Type Archive it all looks perfect.


The three quotes we have selected are:

I walk here as much as I can. It's absolutely beautiful here even though it's in the city

There are lilacs and hawthorns and laburnums blossoming in all the gardens, and the chestnut trees are magnificent

If one truly loves nature one finds beauty everywhere
